VALENTINE’S DAY HISTORY

As per the legends Valentine’s Day is celebrated to mark the death anniversary of Saint Valentine who died mid-February in 270 AD. It was said that St. Valentine was a priest who lived in Rome in the third century AD. During that time there was an Emperor named Claudius who had banned marriage in his kingdom because he thought married men were bad soldiers. St. Valentine felt that it was completely unfair and arranged marriages in secret by breaking the King’s rule. When Claudius found about this, he sent Valentine to jail and sentenced him to death. At the time when Valentine was living in Jail, he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter. On 14th February when he was taken to be killed he sent the girl a love letter signed “from your Valentine”.
