Bhai Dooj 2020: Celebrating the Lovable Bond Between Siblings
A festival that celebrates the bond between brother and sister and marks the closure of the 5-days long festival Diwali. As per the Hindu calendar, Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the Dwitiya Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik. This year Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on 16th November . In the word Bhai Dooj – “Bhai” means brother and “Dooj” signifies the second day after the new moon. During this day, all the sisters prepare a thaali and put ‘tilak’ on their brothers’ forehead. After that, they perform aarti and pray for their happiness, health and prosperity. The brother in return takes a pledge to protect her from any harm under any circumstances. In India, Bhai Dooj is celebrated with different names in different states like Bhaubeej in Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka; Bhai Phonta in Bengal; Ningol Chakouba in Manipur and so on.
